The West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law is strengthening its synergy with Padjadjaran University to increase awareness and services related to Intellectual Property (IP) for the academic community and the wider public. Planned programs include mentoring the IP center at Unpad, IP registration and protection, and developing IP-based research and innovation.
“There is a wealth of intellectual property that can be explored, including from the arts and cultural communities, as well as geographical indications in West Java. Therefore, we want to collaborate with universities in West Java, including Unpad. I am confident that Unpad will produce numerous creative works from both lecturers and students,” said the Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law, Asep Sutandar, at the Executive Lounge of the Unpad Rectorate Building on Jl. Dipati Ukur, Bandung, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
The Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law visited with his team and met with the Rector of Unpad, Prof. Also present at the meeting were the Vice Rector for Resources and Governance, Prof. R. Widya Setiabudi Sumadinata; the Vice Rector for Research, Cooperation, and Marketing, Prof. Rizky Abdulah; the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Sigid Suseno, S.H., M.Hum.; and the Chairperson of the Notary Alumni Association (Ikano) of Padjadjaran University, Dr. Ranti Fauza Mayana.
Unpad Rector, Prof. Arief S. Kartasasmita, expressed his gratitude for the visit from the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law to discuss and follow up on how Unpad can contribute to community issues, particularly legal issues.
"In addition to supporting the government as a regulator in the IP sector, we also want to contribute to the implementation of IP-related processes, providing input based on IP research at Unpad. Hopefully, these contributions can help the government develop policies or regulations that provide legal certainty and create a positive climate for developing IP creativity," said Prof. Arief.
On that occasion, several activities to be carried out together were discussed, including plans for a public lecture with speakers from the Indonesian Ministry of Law and the presentation of awards to several Unpad lecturers related to intellectual property.
