Jatinangor, 5 March 2025 - The Faculty of Law of Universitas Padjadjaran (FH Unpad) welcomed a delegation from the SMU Pro Bono Centre, part of Singapore Management University (SMU). The visit marked an important moment in strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in advancing legal education that emphasizes practical experience and community service.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to explore academic collaboration through student mobility programs, particularly a student exchange program combined with internship activities focusing on the development of legal clinics. Through this scheme, students of the Faculty of Law Unpad will have the opportunity to undertake internships at the SMU Pro Bono Centre and be directly involved in addressing various legal issues faced by the community.
As part of the principle of reciprocity in this collaboration, SMU also committed to sending their students to participate in similar activities at the Faculty of Law Unpad. Through this initiative, students from both institutions are expected to gain cross-border practical experience in providing legal aid services while strengthening a global perspective in legal education.
The discussion on this collaboration was attended by delegations from both institutions, led by Chan Wing Cheong, Director of the SMU Pro Bono Centre, and R. A. Gusman C. Siswandi, Dean of the Faculty of Law Unpad. Moving forward, both institutions also see opportunities to expand their academic collaboration in various other fields to support the development of innovative, collaborative, and socially impactful legal education.
This activity was carried out as part of realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 Quality Education and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals.
