Focus Group Discussion on National Follow-up to the UN Convention Against Cybercrime

On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, the Directorate of Political and Security Law and Treaties, Directorate of International Law and Treaties, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University (FH Unpad), supported by the Alumni Association (IKA) of FH Unpad, held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on "National Follow-up to the UN Convention Against Cybercrime" in the 4th-floor Auditorium of the Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Library Building, FH Unpad, Dipati Ukur Campus.

The event began with remarks delivered by the Secretary of the Directorate General (Sesditjen) representing the Director General of International Law and International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This activity aimed to determine the steps Indonesia would take after the Convention was ratified. This Convention is a form of legal development to protect national interests. The Convention itself requires 40 state parties to enter into force.

The FGD continued with a keynote speech by Dr. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Sigid Suseno, S.H., M.Hum., Dean of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University. In his presentation, he stated that cyber development is a double-edged sword. While cyberspace brings benefits and simplifies human life, it also brings various problems, such as cybercrime. Currently, cybercrime regulations do not provide specific protection, particularly for human rights. This convention provides an opportunity for countries to work together to address transnational cybercrime, collaborate with each other, and harmonize laws. This was followed by a keynote presentation by Dr. iur. Dumos Dumoli Agusman, S.H., M.A., Ambassador/Head of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to Vienna, Austria.

The event continued with presentations from the following speakers: Prof. Dr. Ahmad M. Ramli, S.H., M.H., FCArb., Professor of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University; Prof. Dr. Eddy Pratomo, S.H. M.A., Dean of the Faculty of Law, Pancasila University, Mr. Andri Indrady A.Md.Im., M.P.A., Ph.D., Director of Central Authority and International Law. Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ms. Nanci Laura Sitinjak, S.Kom M.M., Ministry of Communication and Informatics and Mr. Caka Alverdi Awal S.Sos., M.I.A., M.Dipl, Director of International Security and Disarmament. Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This discussion was led by Dr. Tasya Safiranita Ramli, S.H, M.H, Chair of the Center for Cyber ​​Law and Digital Transformation Studies and also a member of the Expert Council of IKA FH Unpad. After the presentation, the activity continued with an open discussion session with the participants.
