Library

Services

  1. Circulation Services
    In this section, users can select and pick up books directly. It is located on the second floor. They can borrow or return books at the loan counter, where staff will assist them.
  2. Reference Services
    Located on the third floor, the collection in this section can only be read or photocopied with permission from the reference staff, and photocopying is handled by the staff.
  3. Scientific Work Collection Services
    Similar to the reference collection, this collection is located on the third floor and houses student written works in the form of theses, dissertations, and dissertations. Users must present their membership card or identification to access the library. They are not permitted to take the library out of the library.
  4. Internet Services and Hotspot Area
    On the second floor, there is an e-learning room with several computers available for assignments or internet access. Access can be done by using coupons provided at the service counter, upon showing your membership card or student ID card. All library spaces are equipped with hotspots that can be used by the entire Unpad Faculty of Law (FH) community. To access these hotspots, users must first create an account by registering with D-csistem.
  5. Reading Room
    Each floor has a reading room. The circulation section has open tables, while the third floor has carrels.
  6. OPAC Search Service
    The library is equipped with computers for searching the library's collections, which can be used directly by users. Two units are available on the 2nd floor and one unit on the 3rd floor.
  7. Information Search Services
    Staff can assist users with information searches, including searching for books in the Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Library, the collections at Cisral, or searching online.
  8. Photocopy Services
    For books or collections that are not permitted for borrowing, users can still obtain the materials or information they need by photocopying them in accordance with applicable regulations.
  9. Library and Information Guidance
    In addition to assisting users with searches, staff also assist users with other matters, such as how to use existing facilities, such as the OPAC and other information.
  10. Student Assistance
    Assisting students conducting research, both Unpad Faculty of Law students and other students.

The Faculty of Law Library was established with the founding of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University (Unpad) in 1957. Initially located at Jalan Imam Bonjol No. 21, Bandung, the library has occupied the second and third floors of the Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Building on the Jalan Dipati Ukur campus since 2008.

The Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Building was inaugurated in early 2009. The inauguration was conducted by Unpad Rector, Prof. Ganjar Kurnia, on January 27, 2009.

“Prof. Dr. Mochtar Kusumaatmadja, S.H., LL.M, as an educator and statesman who has made extraordinary contributions to higher legal education in Indonesia.”

This library building is dedicated to Unpad's fifth Rector. Furthermore, the library's establishment reflects Prof. Mochtar's recognition of the importance of libraries as the heart of higher education.

The library building comprises four floors with a contemporary minimalist design, built on a 550-square-meter plot of land with a building area of ​​2,200 square meters. This library building is expected to fulfill the mandate of Article 3 of Law No. 43 of 2007 concerning Libraries, namely, to function as a vehicle for education, research, preservation, and information to enhance the nation's intelligence and empowerment.

The inauguration was attended by Prof. Mochtar Kusumaatmadja and several Unpad officials, including the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Husein Hernandi Bahti; the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Trias Nugrahadi, dr., Sp.KN; the Vice Rector for Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Tb. Zulriska Iskandar, S.Psi., M.Sc., Vice Rector for Information Systems Planning and Supervision; Prof. Ir. Tarkus Suganda, M.Sc., Ph.D.; Secretary of the Senate; Prof. Dr. Johan S. Masjhur, Sp.KN.

Several other invited guests were also present: Head of Bappenas Paskah Suzetta; Mayor of Cimahi Ir. HM. Itoc Tochija, MM.; Head of the State Printing Office of the Republic of Indonesia Dr. Subrata; the 8th Rector of Unpad, Prof. Dr. H.A., Himendra W., dr., Sp.An., KIC., KNA; and Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad M. Ramli, S.H., M.H.

In his remarks, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad M. Ramli, S.H., M.H., explained that the funds for the library building construction came from student development funds, amounting to approximately Rp. 7 billion. Ramli acknowledged that the Faculty of Law is very proud of the inauguration of this building. He also added that Prof. Mochtar's dedication has motivated the building's construction.

As an expression of gratitude to the Unpad family, Prof. Armida Alisjahbana, representing Prof. Mochtar, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the appreciation and attention given to the construction of this library building.

"Hopefully, this library can be used optimally and benefit future generations," explained Prof. Armida.

From the 1960s to 2008, the library was located at Jalan Imam Bonjol No. 21, Bandung, previously known as the "Unpad Faculty of Law Library," occupying approximately 600 square meters of land.

At that time, the Faculty of Law library used two systems: a Closed System in the circulation section, where users were not allowed to check out books themselves but had to ask staff to fetch them. The Reference Section used an Open Access system, where users could check out books themselves.

The classification system used is the H system, meaning 'Law', modified with subject-based classification numbers. This numbering is based on the system used by the National Legal Development Agency (BPHN), a system recommended by Prof. Dr. Sunarjati Hartono, S.H., to align with the universally applicable system.

To become a leading center of scientific information in the field of law, achieving the vision of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University.

  2. To develop collections based on developments in legal science.

  5. To provide professional library staff with strong communication skills and the ability to utilize technology to improve services and the flow of legal information.
  6. To develop adequate facilities and infrastructure for user convenience.
  7. To assist and encourage the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University academic community to achieve the highest levels of competence in the field of legal science.
  8. To contribute to the advancement of legal science.
  9. To contribute to the improvement of teaching, research, and community service.

Together, these three elements work and function to create a comfortable library environment.

Function

  1. Information Resources
    The library serves as a repository for human works, particularly printed works such as books, magazines, and similar works, as well as recorded works.
  2. Educational and Learning Resources
    The library serves as a resource for both formal and informal education. Although the Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Library is primarily intended for the academic community of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University, the community outside the campus can also utilize the library's collections for educational and learning purposes.
  3. Research
    The library supports research activities within the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The library serves as a source of information and serves as a reference for searching for literature.
  4. Community Service
    The library serves as a supporting facility in implementing one of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education functions.
  5. As the Documentation Center and Repository for the Faculty of Law
    The library houses the scientific works of the academic community of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University.

A Look Back at the History of the UNPAD Faculty of Law Library

The Faculty of Law Library was established with the founding of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University (Unpad) in 1957.

Initially, the library was located at Jalan Imam Bonjol No. 21, Bandung, and since 2008, it has occupied the second and third floors of the Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Building on the Dipatiukur Campus.

This system was adopted at the recommendation of Professor Dr. Sunarjati Hartono, S.H., to align with the universally accepted system.

In 1999, this numbering system was discontinued and replaced with the DDC system by Prof. Dr. H. Bagir Manan, S.H., M.C.L., who was appointed Head of Library Development for the Faculty of Law by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Mieke Komar, S.H., MCL.

To date, the Unpad Faculty of Law Library has had several heads. The first head of the library was Idawati Syahrudin, S.H. (1957-1976), followed by Dra. Heny Purakusumah (1976-1982). For four years, the library was without a head. In 1986, Dra. Ati Murniati led the library until 1992. Since she became Head of the Unpad Central Library, she was succeeded by Nandang as Head of Library Affairs (1992-2002), who was then succeeded by Yenni Yunianingsih (2003-2008).

In 2008, the Unpad Faculty of Law Library changed its name to the Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Law Library and was led by Prof. Huala Adolf, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. (2008-2010) as head of the library, followed by Dr. Lastuti Abubakar S.H., M.H. (2010-2011). From 2011 to the present, the library has been led by Prof. Susi Dwi Harijanti, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D.

In 1999, this numbering system was no longer used. It was replaced by the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system by Prof. Bagir Manan, S.H., MCL, who at that time was appointed Head of Library Development for the Faculty of Law by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Mieke Komar, S.H., MCL.

To date, the Unpad Faculty of Law Library has had several leaders or Head Librarians: the first was Idawati Syahrudin, S.H. (1957-1976), followed by Dra. Heny Purakusuma (1976-1982), the third head was Dr. Hj. Tenne Rustini, S.H., M.H. (1982–1985), and in 1986, Dra. Ati Murniati, a library graduate, served as Head of the Library until 1992. Upon her appointment as Head of the Unpad Central Library, she was succeeded by Mr. Nandang as Head of Library Affairs (1992–2002), and then by Mrs. Yenni Yunianingsih until 2008.

In 2008, the Unpad Law Library changed its name to the Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Law Library and was led by Prof. Huala Adolf, S.H., LLM., Ph.D. (2008–2010). However, due to her busy schedule and appointment as Head of the Doctoral Study Program, she was replaced by Dr. Hj. Lastuti Abubakar, S.H., M.H., who also serves as Assistant Dean I.

From 2011 to the present, the Library has been led by Susi Dwi Harijanti, S.H., LLM., Ph.D. Under Mrs. Susi's leadership, numerous programs have been implemented to advance the Library. In 2013, the head of the library was led by Sri Rakhmiyati, S.Sos., M.I.Kom

90% of the Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Library's collection subjects are based on legal sciences, with each classification based on the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system. Subjects are arranged according to predetermined classes as follows:
