History

History of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University

The Faculty of Law (FH) at Padjadjaran University was originally named the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences (FHPM) and was officially established based on Government Regulation No. 37 of 1957 concerning the Establishment of Padjadjaran University, dated September 24, 1957. The Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University is one of the four faculties that formed the foundation of Padjadjaran University, as well as the basis of Padjadjaran University's identity in the world of education. This is reflected in the establishment of Padjadjaran University's Basic Scientific Pattern (PIP) with the theme “Nurturing Law and the Environment in National Development”. In its development, the PIP has been actualized in the development of the fields of International Law and Environmental Law, which have become a reference for legal education in all Law Faculties in Indonesia.

The Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University currently offers the following study programs:

  • Bachelor's Degree (S1) in Law;
  • Master's Degree (S2) in Law;
  • Master's Degree in Notary Studies (MKn); and
  • Doctoral Degree (S3) in Law.

The Development of the Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University

Throughout its history, the Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University has grown rapidly and become one of the leading law faculties in Indonesia. The faculty is known for its quality teaching, excellent research, and significant contributions in the field of law, both nationally and internationally. The Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University has achieved BAN-PT National Accreditation with an A rating for all of its study programs.

Based on the QS World University Rankings 2021, the Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University is also included in the top five best Law Study Programs in Indonesia. In 2022, the Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University was ranked 2nd in the “teaching category” among leading universities in Indonesia that offer legal education, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022 covers more than 1,600 universities in 99 countries and regions, making it the largest and most diverse university ranking to date. In 2023, the Faculty of Law at Unpad received international accreditation from FIBAA for its Bachelor's (S1) Law Study Program, Master's (S2) Law Study Program, and Doctoral (S3) Law Study Program for the accreditation period from March 22, 2023 to March 21, 2028. In the same year, the Faculty of Law at Unpad was ranked 301-350 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject: Law & Legal Studies.

As expressed in the phrase “ubi societas ibi ius” introduced by Marcus Tullius Cicero, the Faculty of Law at Unpad accommodates the dynamics of social life by establishing a Clinical Law Laboratory, which has become a hallmark of the Faculty of Law at Unpad. The Clinical Law Laboratory is oriented towards the development of legal education that can anticipate changes in social life. Currently, the Faculty of Law at Unpad has an Anti-Corruption Law Clinic, a Criminal Law Clinic, a Civil Law Clinic, and an Environmental Law Clinic with an effective number of students, comprehensive material study by combining the involvement of practitioners to achieve experiences that will complement the lecture material.

Since its establishment, the Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University has continued to strive to improve the quality of education by implementing various innovations in the curriculum and teaching methods, as well as expanding its network of cooperation with legal institutions in Indonesia and abroad. To ensure comprehensive lecture material, the Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University also has a curriculum that is constantly evaluated so that it can always be in line with the developing needs of all relevant stakeholders and in accordance with the regulations and policies applicable in Indonesia. The curriculum of the Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University has learning outcomes in the form of attitudes and values, mastery of knowledge, work skills, as well as competence and responsibility. The Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University has also produced many graduates who have become important figures in the world of law, government, and society. The Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University is also active in various academic activities, seminars, and legal conferences that aim to continuously update and improve knowledge and skills in the field of law.

Vision, Mission, and Accreditation

The vision and mission of the Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University were developed with the involvement of many parties, including the academic community, alumni, and relevant stakeholders. The team responsible for drafting the faculty's vision and mission referred to the university's vision and mission, the university's strategic plan, and Padjadjaran University's development strategy for 2007-2026.

To produce a high-quality vision and mission, the draft vision and mission were discussed in a public forum with stakeholders, and the final draft was reviewed in a workshop with the quality assurance unit before being approved and ratified by the senate.

The evaluation of the vision and mission was conducted through a vision and mission evaluation workshop, which then resulted in the Dean's Decree on the Determination of the Vision and Mission of the Faculty of Law, Unpad.
