Constitutional Law

The Department of Constitutional Law was founded by Prof. Dr. Sri Soemantri, who was the youngest member of the Constituent Assembly in 1959 and Chair of the Constitutional Commission in 2003. The Department of Constitutional Law also has several honorary members, namely Prof. Bagir Manan, who was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia (2001-2008) and Chair of the Press Council (2010-2016). The Department of Constitutional Law focuses on learning and curriculum development in courses related to constitutional law at the Faculty of Law. In addition, the Department of Constitutional Law also has various research activities related to various constitutional issues as well as mentoring or guidance for students who are participating in competitions or are interested in conducting research in the field of Constitutional Law.

The Department of Constitutional Law, Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University, has a study center, the Center for State Policy Studies, Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University (PSKN FH Unpad). PSKN FH Unpad has several research activities, including:

  1. Collaborating with government institutions to develop academic papers and draft regulations, such as laws and regional regulations;
  2. Receiving research funding from various institutions, such as internal Unpad research grants, Ministry of Education and Culture research grants, and other research grants;
  3. Hosting various legal discussions; and
  4. Publishing the journal "Indonesian Journal of Constitutional and Administrative Studies" and podcasts discussing various constitutional law issues.

Activities of the Department of Constitutional Law, Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University include:

  1. Public Lectures and Seminars: The Department of Constitutional Law regularly holds public lectures or seminars featuring leading legal experts and practitioners to discuss current issues in the field of Constitutional Law.
  2. Research and Publications: Members of the Department of Constitutional Law actively conduct research on various topics, most recently: Relocation of the National Capital from a Constitutional Law Perspective (2022-2024); Monetary Constitutionalism in Indonesian Constitutional Law (2024); The Urgency of Strengthening the Unwritten Constitution and Constitutional Conventions in Indonesia (2024); and Evaluation of the 2024 Simultaneous General Elections (2024).
  3. Community Service: The Department of Legal Aid and Legal Affairs carries out various forms of community service, including legal outreach activities for the community and collaboration with government agencies in the preparation of academic papers and draft regulations such as laws and regional regulations, as well as providing legal input regarding public policy;
  4. Student Competitions and Activities: The Department of Legal Aid and Legal Affairs supports and assists students in debate competitions, legal writing, and other competitions.
