Legal Clinic

Dr. Wanodyo Sulistyani, S.H., M.H., LL.M.
Head of Legal Clinic

Clinical legal education at the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University, began in the 1970s, initiated by Prof. Mochtar Kusumaatmadja. The program provided legal assistance as an alternative to writing final assignments or theses for undergraduate students. Following curriculum changes in 1980, clinical legal education was discontinued.

Clinical legal education was reinitiated in collaboration with eight Indonesian universities: Padjadjaran University, University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, University of North Sumatra, Sriwijaya University, Udayana University, Airlangga University, and Hassanuddin University in 2011 through the establishment of a legal clinic. The activities in the legal clinic are intended to equip students with knowledge, skills, and a sense of social justice. Therefore, the legal clinic's activity model focuses not only on legal assistance but also includes several activities such as research, advocacy, and public education.

In 2012, three legal clinics were established: a criminal law clinic, a civil law clinic, and an anti-corruption clinic with no credits. In 2013, the legal clinic was included as a course at the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University, with a value of 2 credits of clinical education (6 to 8 hours per week). In addition to these three clinics, the legal clinic expanded in 2020 with the establishment of an environmental law clinic. The number of credits for the legal clinic course also changed in 2020 to 3 credits of clinical education.
